Two weeks ago, we launched the first phase in our grassroots effort to alert the presidential candidates of the harms that pornography is causing Americans and to ask that they commit to direct their U.S. Attorney General to enforce existing obscenity laws if elected. We set up a service that allows you, with just one click of the mouse, to contact all the candidates. We also purchased a toll-free telephone line if you would rather make a call, 1-877-354-2951.

This campaign is already achieving great success, but you will see from the candidate responses below, that they are largely unaware that our obscenity laws are not being enforced.
Please continue to contact these candidates either by email here or by phone, even if you have already contacted them once. We must demonstrate that tens of thousands of Americans are at war with pornography AND WE MEAN BUSINESS!
We met with three candidates after YOU bombarded their campaigns with emails and calls. Here’s an update:
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich: I actually had a few minutes to talk to him face-to-face last Saturday. I briefly explained the harms to society associated with pornography and that the laws are currently not being enforced. He said: “What? Why aren’t the laws being enforced now?” and then when asked if he would enforce them, he replied, “Yes, I will appoint an Attorney General who will enforce these laws.”
Sen. Rick Santorum: Told our staff that he was unaware that the current laws are not being enforced, but explained that he has a long history in supporting Internet Safety measures and commended us in our efforts.
Rep. Michele Bachmann: She told our coalition member, Citizens for Community Values, that she doesn’t know much about these laws and promised to look into them.
Gov. Mitt Romney: His campaign responded to our efforts with this statement:” (I)t is imperative that we cultivate the promotion of fundamental family values. This can be accomplished with increased parental involvement and enhanced supervision of our children. It includes strict enforcement of our nation’s obscenity laws, as well as the promotion of parental software controls that guard our children from internet pornography.”
As you know, it is critical for us to pin down the candidates BEFORE the election and MIM’s campaign to overwhelm all candidates, including the President, with telephone calls and e-mails on this project will make a difference! We need to make our political leaders aware that the current U.S. Attorney General is giving a FREE PASS TO BREAK THE LAW TO PORNOGRAPHERS.
Make sure to email or call the candidates this week!
Could you also please make a donation to Morality in Media at this time? We ask often, but I think you know by now that we put your tax-deductible contributions to very good use and WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
Thank you,

P.S. Don’t forget to Forward this email to many others who will be interested to know how the candidates feel about this important issue. Urge them to contact the candidates also.
